Editor's Note
A review of the life of poet John Keats, author of such poems as "Hyperion," "Ode to a Nightengale," and "Ode to a Grecian Urn."
Plot Summary
"Famous Authors" examines the men and women behind the words that brought them literary kudos.| In "John Keats," viewers learn how the English poet rose quickly to the upper echelon of letters in the Romantic period. His works, many of which were autobiographical, include "Autumn" and "Ode to a Nightingale."| Keats, however, had an emotionally trying youth. His parents died while he was a child, and his brother Tom later succumbed to tuberculosis. Keats originally planned to be a physician, but abandoned this livelihood to become a poet. He did draw on his medical background to help Tom during his illness. Sadly, Keats himself died of the same disease when he was 25.
